Maybe City, as a professionally run outfit, are simply happy to feign interest in players to drive prices up for us and to keep us distracted while they go after players they really want.

Yeah Pep said City couldn't afford MaGuire, which is clearly a fucking jokeashleyfuckingyoung wrote: ↑4 years ago Maybe City, as a professionally run outfit, are simply happy to feign interest in players to drive prices up for us and to keep us distracted while they go after players they really want.
There were reports, probably based on club briefings, about how Ole's "new look" transfer strategy relied on getting reports about players' character and work ethic -- Giggs reported on James, Phelan knew Maguire from before, Carrick knew Longstaff and the Newcastle crowd, someone knew something about Bissaka etc. etc.
That's all well and good, seems like common sense to me. But they don't seem to appreciate that this is exactly why you need a professional dedicated director of football with a great network of contacts and relationships in many countries, so they can get these kinds of reports on players beyond just the British scene that Micky Phelan happens to know. FFS.

Thank goodness that steaming pile of shit that we call the transfer season is over and done with. After what feels like an eternity of being linked with every oxygen conversion unit in football we end up being an injury or two away from a back line of; Young, Smalling, Jones and Darmian.
What a joke.

Exactly. Your DoF runs the scouting system of the club, so you build up a view of players character and personality when you're scouting. We had 6 months to prepare for the summer, then 3 months to get shit done.bman2 wrote: ↑4 years ago There were reports, probably based on club briefings, about how Ole's "new look" transfer strategy relied on getting reports about players' character and work ethic -- Giggs reported on James, Phelan knew Maguire from before, Carrick knew Longstaff and the Newcastle crowd, someone knew something about Bissaka etc. etc.

No great loss except for the small, dwindling hope that he might come good for us as a number 10 or on the right. But probably best just to get his sulking presence out of the joint, even if we'll still be paying a large share of his wages.
