The issue with Rooney is not the amount he is paid but whether his wages constitute value for money. There are also consequences to paying one player that amount. Also the question has to be asked about how much power he holds in relation to the club. His first transfer request was handled abysmally by Rooney and his agent and it was the agent that put it about that he would be moving to City.Horrendous!
So is he value for money? On the evidence, not at the moment. It's a huge investment for United to make and was made to send out a signal, and,as it turned out, Uniteds major signing of the summer. He is a very good player but not good enough to build a team around In some games he is completely duff, poor control, poor passing, poor vision, but you know that, barring injury,he will not be substituted. However,on his day,he is up with the best. Its just the side issues of best position, how much power he wields etc that worry me.
