Spot on, a proper CF does make a difference. Martial doesn't like playing out wide but he doesn't put in a consistent CF shift. And he's looked alright out on the left.

VdB is so tidy with his passing and ability not to fluster under pressure, everything Fred isn't. It's been another typical Fred performance, sloppy passing, giving away silly free kicks and poor reading of the game. Imagine how good that midfield could be if Fred was even half as decent as Kante.

I don't want to be quite so hard on Fred but all your other points are spot on as well. Coupled with VdB's passing is his exceptional protecting of the ball.

It'd be interesting to see us play with just 2 upfront, Bruno as a false 9, VdB just in front of McT and Fred. If VdB could be given the freedom to collect the ball and play those simple forward balls into the forward players, reckon we would see a much better end product.
