People wont remember Martials performance today. He's been like this for a good while now. He does turn up on occasion and he's brilliant when he does.

He's too old for a start, and to break Rooney's record he'd need continued success at United, manager after manager, era after era. That means the Glazers maintaining the right infrastructure that breeds success, Woodward always landing the right targets, our richer rivals to fall by the wayside... there's too much shit that can go wrong

Rooney benefitted from having a truly unique situation in having true great as manager who was unfireable, and that doesn't really exist in the modern game.

Also, you're jumping the gun a bit, we've not played anybody good yet
