He'd be absolute class. Spurs are struggling without him at the moment. It's amazing he hasn't be bought by anyone. The market is very strange these days.

The problem with that style of play is that if the opposition lineup not to be scored against, (9 defenders & 1 upfront), and then organize themselves so there is little or no room behind them it’s almost impossible to break on them. The lack of creative playmaking midfielder has plagued United since Sir Alex retired, and yet window after window goes by and we have not even come close to fixing the problem.
I think that's all true. But what are Liverpool doing that the same approach works so well for them? And they have little or no creativity in midfield. I think Ole is trying to imitate Klopp with the high press. Maybe it's not that complicated -- Firmino, Salah, Mane are just better. And of course Liverpool's fullbacks each rack up a fuckload of assists, I suppose that might be the real difference. Signs we might be making progress with Shaw and Bissaka.

As much as it pains me to say it but with Firmino, Salah and Mane Liverpool may have the best attacking trio in football. The fluidity between the trio is just phenomenal combine that with Firmino’s incredible vision and his ability to get the ball where it needs to be before most on the pitch have even seen the play, Firmino is their creative spark. When liverpool have the ball Robertson and Alex-Arnold are almost given a free ride from typical defending, rather their role is to provide width for the attack and to be extra bodies if the opposition gets the ball, along with two of the midfielders (and at least one of the forwards) they overwhelm the opposition. The Liverpool press relies on them getting more players around the ball than the opposition and once they get the ball, the first thought is to attack. The back two defenders do not even have to get too involved in the press and they also have Fabinho as an extra of defense if the initial press is broken.

On the other hand our press is much more individuals running at the ball carrier, forcing early passes and often picking up errant passes. When we do get the ball our first thought isn't to go on the attack but rather how to secure possession and settle the game down. Rewatch the Palace game and count the number of times we win the ball and instead of taking advantage of the turnover, our first pass is backwards usually one of the central defenders.

Talk of Fred going now. They really are shipping all of Joses long ballers and dinosaurs. It's looking like a genuine transition season. Question is, when are they going to start actually signing replacements?

It's starting to look more like a receivership clearance sale than a transition. Can Fred really be worse than Pereira?

Fred definitely has more quality. There's a good player there, I just don't think he fancies it.

We could easily lose him and Pogba and in the next 4 days, leaving Ole with very little to work with, considering we have 3 competitions and the europa. Ed wouldn't pull this shit with any other manager.

The problem is that with the pressing game we play we have no alternative-no player that can change the game or come on and change the game. Not sure why Pogba is being sacrificed by playing him deeper. And why is it that when our full backs get into a position to cross 99% of the time they turn back on themselves and play the ball back? No plan B, no back up players, except in defence. Seems we’re dumping the crap but not replacing - yet. Let’s hope it’s yet another ‘transitional’ season.

Smalling going too.

I'm fine with a transition season. If it's a proper transition season.

Our challenge will be, if we dont get top 4 then next summer we'll really struggle with the midfield rebuild we need.

I'd rather we kept Smalling over Jones. But nobody would want Jones.
Except Laz who kept calling him Dunc Edwards.
