What sticks out for me is the fact that we were clearly hugely interested in Sancho, Haaland, and Bellingham, yet they’re all playing for Broussard Dortmund. It’s quite damning that we didn’t manage to either buy Sancho or persuade even one of Haaland or Bellingham to come here instead. Dortmund’s a good club, obviously, and they give young players game time. But to have lost out on all three, when two are English and the third is Norwegian like Ole, is pretty bad. That’s where I think a DoF is needed. Not just about haggling for prices and that kind of thing, but keeping an eye on the market full time, taking responsibility for building relationships with players and their entourages, persuading them to join United. Ole can’t do that full time, obviously, he’s got a team to manage and coach. If you look at the clubs doing it right, they have their DoF-type people talking intensely to targets and their agents for months; the deals are basically sorted out before the window opens.

A DoF could also identify and recruit top coaching talent to help Ole out. Specialists. Take care of the health side of things, all of that shit.

It’s too much today for one person. Ole can’t do what Ferguson did. Even Ferguson couldn’t manage it all in the last few years. A lot of our off-field football operations definitely started falling behind the competition before Ferguson retired, like recruitment, the medical side of things, and so on. Every manager has said that.

Yeah that's a good point. Losing out on all three to Dortmund who're just not very good (currently 6th in bundesliga) is piss poor.

It's true about relationships. Ed can't just go in and say we want to sign you out of the blue. You have to put the work in for months / years beforehand. They used to call it tapping up but it's standard now. The reason we signed Beek so easily was cos we have a great relationship with Van Der Sar. But that's it.

Evra said Ed & co don't refer to Fergie and his connections, and it's shameful cos he's literally the most successful and respected man in football, and he won't be around forever. A visit and an assurance from Fergie would go a long way in signing top young players. But Ed would take it as a sleight, like he wasn't up for the job.

Another shit thing, Ed famously doesn't ring players back. Loads of players have said it. We register interest then let it go dead for 2/3 months while Ed deals with other tranfers, contracts, overseeing the commercial side (his priority so the Glazers get their dividends) and forming an entire new league. And in the meantime another club jumps in.

OGS post match last night suggests he will play a strong team in the home league - will wait and see but if doesn't take next Thursday as a chance to rest Bruno, he's lost the plot.

Ole after moving into the Europa last 16:
“This group feels hurt, and wants to go further,” said Solskjær. “We’ve had a few setbacks and knocks, but it lifts us. If you fail in three semis, you want to do better and improve. It’s exciting. It’s a group of players that will improve, because we’re still a young team.”
He’s talking about getting knocked out at the semis last time.

This is the Orwellian bullshit going on at our club now. I like Ole. I always thought Jose was a cunt. But I have no time for this shit where Ole’s performance is measured against some magical universe where Gaal and Jose didn’t get the results they did. Oh we need to win some of the smaller pots to show progress did we? But fucking Gaal and Jose won all the smaller pots with us. That happened, and it wasn’t considered good enough. Now we’re supposed to believe that we’re making progress because we have the potential to maybe do that again?

Apart from Moyes/Giggs, no United manager has ever gotten a lower PL total than Ole has done, TWICE. Sure, the first time was only after half a season, I’m not going to slaughter him for that. But let’s have some fucking perspective.

Ok, he doesn't play your galacticos and you start acting like a deranged Arsene Wenger cherry picking stats..
Let's not talk about his PL total. He's done better than Moyes and Gaal. First time was half a season "sure" but then surely you consider just that half season and look at his points total.

It's frustrating. With Gaal, the FA cup felt like the beginning of something bigger that a younger manager who also played a high press and possession based football could take to the next level. These are the core features of the best teams that win all of the big pots. With Jose, the europa, league cup and being 19 points off City was the maximum he could get out of the team he built before he burned it all down in season 3

With Ole, if we won minor pots, would you feel like this was the maximum we can expect under him or would you feel like there's more to come? He's built a young squad with a lot of quality and potential, but there's still no set style of play

Yeah there’s no thought that goes into the managers we’ve signed. Jose was the polar opposite in terms of tactics and “philosophy”. Ole’s tactics are pretty similar to Jose’s, but he has also shifted the likes of Lukaku, and now the word is a no 9 is our top priority. So we just keep turning over players.

Why on earth the club didn’t just sack Jose at the end of his second season, I don’t know. You could at least say he’d mostly delivered what you want from Jose — got us second place, 80 something points. Would have been the right time to get Poch or someone, who could then build from a place of relative strength. But instead we throw away a season, when it was bloody obvious from the very beginning that Jose would leave.

Even the ex-United pundits are saying Ole’s tactics are shit now.

Look at how Tuchel has had a huge impact at Chelsea already. Made them very solid at the back already. They’ve only conceded 3 search he took over, despite their CBs being a bag of shite. They played us off the park yesterday. Our pass success rate was 80%! That’s shitehorse standard. Obviously he doesn’t have Chelsea banging in goals yet, but you build a good team from the back, and it looks like he’s making good progress already. The difference between a proper high-level manager and some old boy like Lampard or Ole is night and day.

I have a feeling that moving to the PL could be the making of Tuchel. Seems like Chelski's owner is pretty absent these days, so Tuchel has few opportunities for a face-to-face falling out with him, so he'll probably get a decent period of time to sort them.
