Ole deserves massive credit if Pog stays

...really?
I think I’d give him more credit if he sold him and invested the proceeds in the 4 or 5 players we really need.

No one wants pogba for his wages. He won't get those wages anywhere else unless he runs down his contract

Yeah cos he's clearly one of our best players

His fee probably wouldn't pay for 4 or 5 players given that coronavirus is affecting prices. Also if it did, or even 2/3, they'd be squad players, when we need quality.

He's crap in a 4231 system. If the hobbit wants to get anything out of him he has to play him higher up the field and accept he's crap defensively. So either the hobbit learns to ring the changes in formation, in which case Pogba could have a role, or he should sell him and bring in players that can do what Pogba doesn't.

Ole’s tactics seem a bit muddled this season. He seems to want to be progressive, play a high line, press, and basically imitate Liverpool. But we only look really coherent as a unit when we’re playing Mourinho ball against quality opponents, and those have all been our best performances — like against Liverpool, City, etc.

Take Sevilla: tried to be progressive, but fell apart at the back and didn’t score enough. And if he wanted to play a high line, why break the bank for Maguire, so that now all we can talk about is buying another CB who can cover for him? Why let Smalling go, who the best cover defensively for Maguire. Why buy a RB who can’t attack?

I think we could have a more attacking midfield with Pogba on the left and Fernandes on the right, but then we might need a DM with a real engine to cover a lot of ground and carry water for them. Hmm, Herrera had good engine, why’d we let him walk out on a free?

Because Herrera was mediocre as fuck.

And yet Herrara was still miles better than Fellaini.

bman, completely agree re muddled tactics and thinking. The club are so caught up with buying British and 'potentia'l and 'for the future' that they are missing out on some much much better players. £80m on the newer but shitter version of Terry Butcher was ridiculous but he is British (and had a good World Cup). £50m on a RB who gets dizzy going forwards is also ridiculous but he is British. And so you see the pattern.

Pogba is only staying because no other club will come in for him with his transfer fees and wages. No one other than PSG could afford him and they don't need him. And so of course Raiola will come out and say that Pogba is happy at the club because he is an important piece of the project. This is not to say that I don't want him to stay, I think a fully fit and motivated Pogba would be immense and there wouldn't be many players at his level. Just saying that to give Ole credit for Pogba staying is bigging Ole up too much.

A fully fit and motivated Pogba could be a real asset but if he’s just deployed as a double 6 in a 4231 he’s going to be spending a lot of time dawdling around sulking and souring the dressing room atmosphere.
If the hobbit wakes up to the possibilities presented by a 4141 or a 3412 lineup then we might see what Pogba can contribute. But I fear the hobbit will serve up the same formation and try and bend Pogba to fit. I consequently anticipate a well fucked off and dispirited Pogba by Christmas.

Yep. Much better at doing nothing.
